What are corner posts?

Corner posts are vertical trim pieces that finish the edges where siding panels meet at building corners. They install on both outside corners (where two walls meet at the exterior perimeter) and inside corners (such as where an exterior wall meets a soffit, or at recessed entry areas). These posts hold and align siding panels while creating a clean, professional edge that hides the cut ends of the material.

Two sizing standards exist for vinyl siding and metal systems. Standard corner posts are larger and more visible, typically used on projects where the corner will be seen head-on. Undersized corner posts are slimmer and less prominent, often chosen for rear elevations, side yards, or where homeowners prefer a subtler trim detail. The choice between them affects both the visual weight of the corner and the way light plays across the facade.

Corner posts must accommodate expansion and contraction as temperatures change, especially in Florida's heat and humidity. Proper installation requires leaving room for siding panels to move freely and ensuring the post itself is plumb (perfectly vertical).
